Holistic Massage Therapy

What is holistic ?

Holistic therapy treats the whole person, body, mind and spirit. It takes into account the physical, mental and social factors, rather than just treating the symptoms of a disease.

Therapy sessions begin with a consultation to enable the massage treatments to be therapeutically tailored to suit your individual needs.

Essential oils, selected for their therapeutic properties are used in all the massages, (except the Indian head massage, where no oil is used or unless  you have an allergy or simply prefer no oils.)

FULL BODY MASSAGE  - 90 mins

This is a top to toe treatment that stimulates and relaxes the body and mind. The skin, blood and lymphatic systems are also stimulated, which boosts circulation, aids cell renewal and helps to remove toxins. An overall feeling of relaxation  and well being comes about as tense muscles relax, stiff joints loosen and nerves are soothed, providing renewed energy to cope with the pressures of everyday life.

HOT STONES MASSAGE - 90 mins

The origins of hot stone therapy can be traced back to over 2,000 years ago, when the Chinese used heated stones  as a means of improving the function of internal organs.

Hot stone therapy is a specialist massage that uses smooth, flat, heated basalt stones. Using massage oil and a combination of strokes and techniques the hot stones encourages your body to detox and heal through increasing your lymphatic flow and encouraging the body to remove waste products.

Please note:  Hot Stone Therapy is not recommended for several conditions including: high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, varicose veins, migraines, rheumatoid arthritis, decreased pain sensitivity, recent wounds, areas of weakened or inflamed skin, tumors, metal implants, recent chemotherapy, radiation or surgery or if you are on medication that thins the blood. If you think you may be pregnant, please let Wendy know.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE - 90 mins

The lymphatic system is the purifying and drainage system of the body and is put under strain when the body is injured or unhealthy. The waste products cannot be filtered out quickly enough and the build-up causes swellings around the lymph nodes or at the site of an injury.

This treatment is a gentle pumping massage which aims to speed up the removal of waste products throughout the body.

MASSAGE IN PREGNANCY - 90 mins

Massage is a wonderful way of preparing a woman for childbirth and helping her to feel more comfortable with her changing body. Massage also helps to alleviate many of the stresses and discomforts that arise during pregnancy such as backache, insomnia, swollen ankles and can also lessen the possibility of stretch marks.

Please note, it is always advisable to check with your doctor or midwife before a massage.

FOOT REFLEXOLOGY MASSAGE - 60 mins

The traditional Chinese art of stimulating nerve endings in the feet. Each organ and system in the body is connected to different areas in the feet and when stimulated can help to eliminate toxins, improve circulation and balance the system as a whole.

HANDS, FACE AND FEET  - 90 mins

The hands are not normally considered a great area of tension but as we use our hands constantly in everyday life it is not surprising that they sometimes feel stiff and tired. People who use a word processor, hold the handles of a racquet or a club, clasp musical instruments etc. would find enormous benefit from a hand massage.

The face constantly mirrors our health and emotions. Stress and tension are reflected in a furrowed brow, lines around the mouth, eyes and jawline. A face massage can help to sooth away headaches, anxiety and exhaustion, inducing deep relaxation and well being. It also helps to improve circulation, giving the skin a healthy glow.

A foot massage is very relaxing, there are thousands of nerve endings in the foot, particularly on the sole and by massaging these the whole body can be stimulated. It can help to alleviate anxiety and stress, boost the circulation, calm the nerves and energises anyone feeling tired and lethargic. Having the feet worked on is a delightful way of ending this combination massage. As it is not necessary to remove much clothing it is an ideal introduction for those new to massage.

TARGETED PAIN RELIEF - 60 mins

This treatment is carried out on particular problem areas i.e. sports injuries, fibrositis ( frozen shoulder), sciatica, back problems, rheumatism, arthritis, gout etc.

STRESS-BEATER MASSAGE - 60 mins

No time for a massage? Then you need one! Pressure can be stimulating and challenging; but as it starts to build up we may try to ignore the physical signs of stress such as fatigue, insomnia, headaches and the feeling of being on edge. It is important to tackle these problems at an early stage. If they are not treated they will eventually affect your health in general and could lead to more serious illnesses such as ulcers, depression and heart problems. This treatment concentrates on the upper part of the body, using essential oils that are natural, powerful alternatives to tranquillisers and anti-depressants.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE  - 60 mins

This is an invigorating treatment carried out on the upper arms, shoulder neck and head. Gentle finger pressure is applied to the face to stimulate and tonify. The recipient is seated during this treatment and no oil is used. It is therefore ideal for those who need a ‘boost’ but who are limited for time and for who an oil free massage is more appropriate.
